HAMISH MCBRIDE

Biography

My dream to continue acting and performing, because I believe myself to be a great example of what a driven student of acting should be. I’ve frequently shown the qualities of compassion and reliability needed for an actor, on stage at Websters Theatre, or rehearsing my character ‘Joe’ for my ‘Angels in America’ exam piece.

My passion for theatre has driven me to aim higher, and leave my comfort zone on stage from a young age. My love for theatre began at 6 as an anxious child, when I exceeded all of my tutors’ expectations. I was the only child my age to be confident enough to perform a speaking role in front of an audience in my children’s theatre group's showcase of 'Oliver!'.

In school, my attendance and focus to my work has been impeccable. At Holyrood Secondary School, I’ve achieved A’s in Higher Drama, Music, and English, showing my dedication for the performing arts. I’ve also been cast as male lead ‘Seymour Krelborn’ in my school's production of 'Little Shop of Horrors' which takes place in June.

I was recently certified as 'Mental Health Ambassador' and a Member of Pupil Parliament. These show my communication skills in everyday life. I’ve learned that there's one thing needed in the performing arts, and that’s experience. I need further study on the subject, but I have learnt quite a lot through my many plays and courses, such as portraying ‘Macbeth’ at The Theatre Royal.

Outside school I remain active in my community, working at the interior designer and cafe 'KooEe' as a barista and kitchen Assistant. Working there, I’ve improved my skills of communication, resolving incidents with customers.

At GAMTA, I was awarded the 2022 Acting Merit for my performance in shows 'Guys and Dolls’, and a variety showcase, performed at The Websters and Cottiers Theatres respectively.

During lockdown I remained rigorous in my learning schedule through online classes. Participating in several master classes by professional actors and directors, gaining information only those with real life experience could offer. I fully understand that there is hard work that I will need to undertake, but for the chance of a successful career in this profession, I am excited to meet that challenge.
